No matter why those genes are still around, we do know that being gay is partly genetic and partly determined before a baby is even born. This tells us that sexual orientation isn’t a learned behavior or a choice. Scientists from the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis say homosexuality seems to have an epigenetic, not a genetic link.

Research estimates that about 8% of the population is gay, and homosexuality is known to run in families.
